Dear Lea, Lilou and Lee,
I’m so mad!! My friend Olivia’s birthday party is tonight and all of our friends are getting dressed up and wearing makeup. I asked my mom if she could buy me some eyeshadow and mascara to wear, and she said I’m not allowed makeup until I’m 13! She’s being so unfair!! How can I make her change her mind?

Dear Sagittarius,
What a shame! Wearing makeup and getting dressed up can be loads of fun, and if all your friends are getting dolled up for the party then it’s normal that you don’t want to feel left out. Just remember that your mom really isn’t trying to mean. She just wants you to enjoy your childhood while you can – you’re still very young, and you have loads of time for makeup and fashion later! Explain to her that you don’t want to wear makeup every day, but just for special occasions like birthday parties. Try to come to a compromise: mascara might be too grown up for an 11-year-old, but maybe you could wear a little bit of pink or gold eyeshadow to add a bit of girly glitz to your outfit. If she still says no, do your best to accept her decision instead of getting mad: show her that you can act maturely so she’ll see that you’re starting to grow up, and maybe she’ll reconsider next time you have a party to go to. Either way, the most important thing is that you have tons of fun at the party! Have a great time!!
